What a portable restroom rental costs, and what actually moves the number
The rental itself is the smallest moving part of most quotes. What differs between two numbers is usually everything around it.
Service frequency is the line that matters most
Weekly service is the default across the industry, and on a lightly used unit it is enough. On a busy construction site or an event running several days, it is not. A quote assuming weekly service on a crew of forty is describing a different arrangement from one assuming twice weekly, and the difference between them is not a detail — it is most of the gap.
It is also worth asking what a service visit includes. Pumping only, or pumping plus restocking and sanitising, are different visits at different prices.
Rental length and delivery
Delivery and pickup are charged largely independently of how long the unit stays. That is why a four-week rental frequently costs considerably less than twice a two-week one, and why very short bookings look expensive per day. On a short residential job the delivery is the majority of the bill.
Access changes the delivery. A unit dropped in an open lot is not the same job as one carried through a gate, placed on a slope, lifted onto a deck, or set in a street parking lane that requires permission from the city.
Unit type
A standard unit, an accessible unit and a restroom trailer are three different products at three different prices, and a trailer is not simply a larger version of the others. It needs a tow vehicle, turning room, and in most cases a power and water connection — which makes placement a planning question rather than a delivery one.
Questions that make two quotes comparable
- How often is the unit serviced, and what does a service visit include?
- How is the rental period counted, and what is the minimum?
- Are delivery and pickup both included in the figure quoted?
- What does a mid-rental extra service call cost?
- If the job runs past its expected end date, does the rate change?
- Is relocating a unit on site billable?
